How Do I Organize My Junk Drawer?

This small space is one of my favorites!!!  The potential of what can be stored there can seem endless but that can always feel overwhelming and create the perfect catch-all clutter collector. Since limiting the space and rehoming some stuff,  this drawer has become a stress-less space and I love it!

The junk drawer used to feel like a home for the homeless stuff of our lives.  Things that randomly pile here and there because goodness only knows where else they would go.  Pens, scissors, batteries, random keys, those random buttons and hooks that you know go to something but you're not sure what so I'll just put them here until I figure it out, screws, inside hand tools, tape, notepads, etc.

I started this space with getting rid of most things that came with multiple options.  Batteries was one of the first things that got rehomed but I didn't want to just make another pile somewhere else so we setup a tackle box system and moved these elsewhere.  Random hand tools and accessories left the space for another area too.  I can't tell you how much lighter the space felt just getting the multiple thing categories out of there.  Pens and paper were decreased but not fully moved elsewhere because we often grab from the junk drawer to make a quick note or reminder (outside of the refrigerator store list).

Once we dwindled down to what was going to stay in the space, zones were created within the drawer.  My full micro organizing preferences kicked in and I'm thrilled that it's worked for a few years now.  We've got a few containers within the drawer to keep a 'one-drop' system for cut and paste stuff,  pens and writing stuff, lighters and in case of emergency, and then specific random (extra scotch tape and to-go coffee cup covers).

I know some people and places don't have junk drawers,  do you?
