How Long Does it Take to Get Organized?

FOR-EV-ER! Is a funny movie scene that comes to mind when I'm asked how long something takes.  The truth is, organized is a lifestyle.  We are always moving through days and seasons of life and with that comes constant change.  I typically say, in a year let's look back at the start of your Hopeful Organizing Journey.  That may feel like a huge amount of time but we take the process one small space at a time and focus a do-able time (15 minutes) each day.  Sure,  you'll have some days when you tackle a bigger room or project but if we're true to the journey a year is the usual 'time frame' it takes to get organized.

I want to break that down more though because embracing the idea of a lifestyle change can feel like a lot.  As if we think something is wrong with us and we have to change or beings.  The truth is though we have to discover ourselves and the organizer within.  After that we just check-off each day and space as they come.  Accepting a new way of looking at our stuff and our spaces isn't an overnight moment.  Moving away from organizing being a one and done thing into a sustainable lifestyle is also not an overnight thing.

If we say it takes a year to get organized, that's giving you the power to live organized for the rest of your time.  That my Hopeful is priceless!  It's accepting being an organized person as a truth about yourself!  After a years time you've got the ability to move from space to space and maintain them as organized successes.  You've got the understanding to process an area that could be working better for you, owning it and adjusting it to serve you!  You're fine with going to the store and knowing that container may be cute but it's not your personal organizing style so you move on!  A year may seem like a long time but if it's taken you this many years to not feel like you're living an organized life, what's one year to set you up for success for all the year to come?
