Is Being Paperless Possible?

Updated: Mar 25

All a professional organizer being wants to say yes but my book nerd is struggling hard! Aside from that minor detail, many things, ways and processes offer paperless options. Bonus, some even reward you for going to electronic options. How did you or do you decide when paperless is right for you and your organized life? For me, it's typically a matter of look backs and needs.

Do you ever file something away and then have to take another look at it? Either later that day or in a few months you find yourself looking back at something you already filed. Immediately the clog people come to my mind. My first house had a beautiful tree in the front yard, and it was huge. The root would grow into the drainage out of the house that would lead to a yearly call to the rotor-rooter people. It was like clockwork I would be looking back through the paid bills to find the company name and number of who we called last time. Another example was a time I was arguing about a bill that had been paid and was still being invoiced. I looked back through my files, found the date and confirmation number and poof, problem solved. While most things I can find the electronically record, there are occasions still that still have me keeping paper around.

Needs on the other hand are more of the possible portable pieces. If the grandparents or babysitter come stay with my son for a weekend, I've got a paper in our Home Management Binder system that has emergency contacts and need to know info on it that can be left out for them. Other needs include things that get completed and returned. Yearly insurance enrollments or papers from school. What do you have that gets a pen to paper signature and returned somewhere? Other need papers for me personally are kept in our fireproof/waterproof document bag. Mostly those things that I don't want to look for on my phone in case of an emergency or on the go moment. Birth certificates, life insurance & will details, ect. I'm the most patient when it comes to using my phone to find info so having a physical copy for me to grab and be on the phone with someone just makes the situations less stressful for me.

All these examples could be scanned and stored in an electronic file and I'm sure organized is a simple and successful way. Are there any physical papers you've got lying around?
