When Should I Reorganize My Space?

Life happens and systems change,  it's just what it is.  Those are the moments when reorganizing a space may come into mind.

Retirement is one of the first life moments that comes to mind when we think about reorganizing.  Maybe you and your partner are going to be home more at the same time and that's not been a thing in decades,  who's going to play what roles as the home team now?  Or perhaps now life schedules are altering, the inspiration of changing things up occurs.  Either changing up the actual spaces,  changing up routines and schedules or finally changing up the focus and trying that hobby you've always wanted to spend more time with.  Life happens and embracing those changes can take a little mental and physical organizing thoughts.  If we've gone decades with things 'as they've always been' it's sometimes not even a thought to think about but that's where I come in.  Have you always had the baking sheets in the cabinet over the stove but now find it harder to reach those on a regular basis?  Why not move them to a more prime real-estate space and put a less used or seasonal item in that upper cabinet? I've not retired but have moved to a work from home position and wardrobe has definitely altered.  The daily wear of dresses, tights and heels has been replaced with more comfortable, day-to-day clothes so why is my closet still stuffed with pretties never getting worn?

Reorganizing thoughts be beyond the small spaces and stuff.  When things get busy or changes happen,  I know we often have to reorganize the schedule.  Especially in busy months or seasons of the year.  There is no way I would try to start writing a book during the holiday season because there just isn't time but once things slow down a little,  I'll reorganize the days schedule and fit productivity in.  Another thought that comes to mind are those home team habits.  As the kids grow we can reorganize the home team plan to shift habits.  Did my son do his full laundry system when he was three?  No.  But when he was eight we had the discussion of what's and how's to start that shift of his laundry becoming his habit.

Another thought that comes to me is reorganizing for goals.  I do this mostly when I want to be productive for a project and I'm ok with the momentary feeling of schedule overload.  Have you ever reorganized something to start working on a new goal or habit?  Or wanted to shift something that's been bothering you but it feels like a bigger project?  Maybe those are signs to reorganize a system or plan to accommodate the want.  Be sure to check-in with the reorganizing thought and the goal to see if their working well together for you.
