Balancing Work, Parenting, and Home Management
Do you work full-time away from home? Are you a parent of an energetic child? Do you manage all the people, places, and things at home?
If you answered 'yes' to any of these, please remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I'm with you, and if I can do it, so can you. Honestly, that's all I can manage some days. If you're just starting begin by discarding for 15 minutes a day. Decluttering is the first step towards adopting less-stressful habits. Grab a trash bag or donation box, pick a small space and fill the box with items that no longer serve a purpose in your life. This could be clothes that don't fit, toys that are outgrown, or simply trash that never made it to the bin. Choose a room to start with, take some before pictures, and GO!
Already moved through the decluttering stage and unsure where or how to start organizing? Choose a small space. I often start in the kitchen or my bedroom. Personally, these two spaces hold the most purpose when considering the entire home. The kitchen serves as one of our home's main hubs—it's a dumping ground, gathering spot, office, paperwork center, homework area, and general home management location. My bedroom is my sanctuary, where I can find calm and recharge. Once you've chosen your starting room, start small! Focus on one drawer in the kitchen or one category in the closet, set a timer, and make some progress. Progress over perfection.
